The requirement is already live
Companies House states that identity verification became a legal requirement from 18 November 2025, with a transition period for existing directors and people with significant control. New appointments and incorporations follow the rules applying at the time of the filing.
Do not leave the personal code until filing day
After verification, the individual receives a Companies House personal code. Keep it secure and make sure the company knows when it must be supplied for a director or PSC filing.
Two routes are available
An individual may be able to verify directly through GOV.UK or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. The suitable route depends on available identity evidence and the service being requested.
A useful director checklist
Before a company deadline, confirm the people and dates affected.
- Check each director and PSC on the register
- Confirm whether identity verification has been completed
- Locate the personal code securely
- Check the company-specific due date
- Use current Companies House guidance before submitting
